What is a chemical health assessment?
A chemical health assessment is the tool that chemical health assessors use to determine where an individuals’ use pattern places them on the continuum of dependency. This continuum is based on the DSM-IV-R abuse and dependency criteria.

Assessments can be needed for a variety of reasons including:

An arrest or conviction of a DWI, underage consumption or possession charge
A situation arising from substance use at work or in school
A request from a concerned family member
Concern over your own use of alcohol or other drugs
A request from your attorney prior to a legal hearing
All assessments are private and confidential and no-one will have access to your assessment without your written consent.

A chemical dependency assessment will include an interview with a counselor in which the individual’s chemical use will be reviewed along with the impact of that use on the individual’s daily life and relationships.

This assessment includes a diagnostic test, and summarizes your chemical use history. The assessment is conducted by a licensed chemical health professional that will make recommendations based on your individual needs. It can be extremely helpful to your legal case to have an objective and fair assessment completed before appearing for your court hearing.

Your assessment will last about 1.5 hours and will cover many areas of your life.  We will also need to speak to a collateral person (a phone conversation with someone who can give us information about your drug and/or alcohol use).
