Jacob Root, MA, LMFT- Lino Lakes

Jacob gets that it's hard to make the call to schedule with a counselor. Growing up in a small town in Northern Minnesota, life was hard. One of the most difficult things he's ever done in his life was make his own call for help. That call altered his life journey and led him into the mental health field. He gets that he couldn't do life by himself at the moment and recognized the need for counseling and mentorship. Basketball, baseball, traveling, hiking are all peices of him. These things are a part of what allows him to be healthy emotionally. He has experience with the foster system, incarceration, complex family and cultural dynamics. He works well with individuals, couples and teenage boys. He has a background working with adolescents with a history of varying degrees of mental illness and chemical dependency.  He also has a great deal of experience working with family systems. Jacob has worked in multiple settings in the mental health field, including inpatient, in home, and residential treatment.

Jacob has a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  He sees clients at the Lino Lakes office and offers individual, couples, and family counseling.  Contact Jacob by phone at 651-272-9562 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Jacob works from an Internal Family Systems and Narrative approach.  He believes that all people have a story to tell and within that story are various parts, each part having a voice that needs to be tended to in order to re-author and reclaim that story.  His view on therapy is from a holistic perspective, viewing each individual as a whole and incorporating aspects of cultural backgrounds into his practice.  He has a strong passion for the outdoors and nature and is interested in connecting this passion with his every day work as well.  Jacob is eager to help others make strides in their overall wellbeing.

Jacob works with individuals, couples, teens and families.

He is under the supervision of Heidi Waldoch, MA, LMFT, Sam Zaid, Ph.D, LMFT, Shawn Neel, MS, LMFT, and Herb Grant, Ph.D, LMFT.
